Pear suckers are a tricky pest for top-fruit growers

Top-fruit growers have reported reduced levels of pear suckers in their crops, following the introduction of new treatment, Envidor.

Bayer CropScience showcased its latest product, which hit the market in May, at Fruit Focus last week.

Peter Newman, account manager for fruit an horticulture at Bayer CropScience, told FPJ that a significant proportion of the leading UK pear growers have used the treatment.

He said: “There are two main factors for its popularity - the first is the level of control on the hatching eggs of the pest, and the second is that it is safe on natural predators of the pear sucker, while a lot of other products reduce their populations.”
