Bayer CropScience is urging growers who have not yet made applications of Atlantis WG that they should not be put off by frost.

With black-grass well advanced following excellent growing conditions, early treatment should remain high on the agenda.

After the relative warmth of early November, temperatures are now approaching normal levels for the time of year, with occasional night-time frosts. However, soil temperatures across most of the country remain good. Trials by Bayer CropScience and others continue to show that autumn-applied Atlantis with a residual partner can deliver best black-grass control and yield protection.

Bayer CropScience’s Gordon Anderson Taylor said: “If target weeds are actively growing and ground conditions permit travel, growers should be looking to make headway with Atlantis treatments.

“It is better to apply Atlantis going into a cold period than coming out of one, and Atlantis can be applied during frosty weather provided day-time temperatures support active growth.

“Ideally avoid applying Atlantis immediately before a severe night frost but cold temperatures after application will not reduce efficacy, although they may slow the speed of activity.”

With spray opportunities decreasing over the next few weeks, and decreasing day length narrowing spray windows, Bayer CropScience is reminding growers of the importance of good application technique to get the best from Atlantis.
