Albert Bartlett & Sons's Airdrie operation

Albert bartlett & Sons has acquired Boston-based Naturally Best (Packing) Limited of Lincolnshire for an undisclosed sum and with it a share of Sainsbury’s potato-packing contract.

The deal means that Airdrie-based family firm Bartlett now has a significant proportion of Sainsbury’s potato business as well as being the UK’s largest root-vegetable grower.

The deal was brokered by PKF corporate finance partner, Graeme Cassells, who was also instrumental in Albert Bartlett’s 2003 purchase of carrot business, Knight’s of Norfolk, said this latest transaction is among the largest deals brokered in Scotland this year.

The acquisition brings Bartlett’s total volumes to 700,000 tonnes of fresh produce annually.

The company’s new division will be known as Albert Bartlett (Boston) Ltd.
