BRAC has become the first Bangladeshi organisation to receive EurepGAP certification. It was audited and certified by FoodCert. Netherlands, as reaching the minimum standard to export fresh vegetables to European Union (EU) countries.
BRAC is also the first Primary Market Organisation (PMO) for fresh fruits and vegetables in South-East Asia to be EurepGAP accredited, said a statement.
The organisation started working on receiving this accreditation in 2003 through technocrats, farmers and various foreign experts and after one and a half years of efforts received the accreditation following testing of BRAC produce in FoodCert laboratories in Chennai, India.
The BRAC project was partly supported by ATDP II and is a USAID funded project, the statement added.
