B&F Potatoes has invested in a new production line for its range of fresh, whole-peeled and cut potatoes.

The potato grower, packer and processor’s output is mainly quartered and halved potatoes for roasting. It is already a major supplier to several well-known producers of frozen and chilled foods.

The new facility will enable B&F to add traditional chip-shop chips and wedges to its portfolio.

B&F believes having control of the entire production process - from potato planting to packing of the finished product - will be advantageous for the company and its customers.

The production line - manufactured by Limas AB - can process 2.5 tonnes an hour and completes all necessary tasks from bulk material handling in boxes, through peeling, inspection, cutting and dipping. Most of these functions are automatic and require just five production staff.

After peeling, using the water-free Limas 3-step peeler, the product is inspected and graded into three sizes: small whole potatoes, medium size for halves and a larger size for quarters.

‘Roast’ cutting is then done using Lima halving and quartering machine, which combines high output with pinpoint precision, according to B&F. The wedges and chips are then cut using a Limas Hydrocutter,
