Colombia-based banana producer-exporter Banacol’s social foundation has signed a deal with the government of Costa Rica to “reduce extreme poverty to zero” through IMAS, its institute for social assistance, to promote employee and family development at Banacol’s operations in the Central American country.

Three other companies have also signed up to the deal, which sees the establishment of the first public-private foundation in Costa Rica to use social-science analysis to support those families identified as living in extreme poverty.
