Bach conducts a CGM tour

Lord Bach paid his first visit to New Covent Garden Market last week, in his new role as food and farming minister.

During his tour, the minister said while there is a lot of ongoing consideration over the future of the site, there is a clear need for it to remain a market, although there needed to be changes.

“This is my first visit and I’ve been very impressed, but it’s been on site for 30 years now and everyone agrees we have to look at what progress should be made.” He said the consultants, PricewaterhouseCoopers, were looking for possible solutions and added: “Until we know what those are, its difficult to say anything more concrete.”

However, he pledged to ensure the right decision was made for the traders: “Like everyone, the traders are interested in what will happen in the future, we want to make sure we make the right decision for them.”
