Angus Soft Fruits is working in partnership with Sainsbury’s and the Royal Horticultural Society to educate children about the benefits of strawberries through its children’s fruit range, Baby AVA.

Starting at the Royal Highland Show, the Scottish soft fruit growers provided Baby AVA fruit and strawberry plants to the society, which demonstrated how strawberries are grown to the many 100s of visiting young children.

Angela Rogers, assistant commercial manager for Angus Soft Fruits said: “What struck home is that there are many children who have never tasted a strawberry before, let alone seen a strawberry plant grow, yet they were very receptive to Baby AVA. Not only did they appreciate the care and attention that is required to grow the plants, they understood that soft fruit plays an important role in healthy eating.”

Angus Soft Fruits is the only soft-fruit growing group to produce a fruit aimed specifically at children. The Baby AVA berries are small in size and full of flavour, and typically retail at 99p for 160g in Sainsbury’s. Each Baby AVA pack provides two portions of a 5 A DAY quota.
