UK management consultancy Azurance has been awarded an important contract to work with producers in Kurdistan.

Following a recent visit at the invitation of the Kurdistan Regional Government, Azurance will be working with both public and private sectors with a particular focus on developing and implementing supply chain and marketing strategy.

The initial work will focus on areas well noted for quality produce, especially pomegranates.

Kurdistan has productive soils and good water resources. However, it needs to develop better planning, make use of modern technology and expertise, and further develop the skills of its work force.

The modernisation of the agriculture sector is seen as a key priority of the president and its government. Increasing both the profile and understanding of Kurdistan’s ability to produce quality food is also very important. Whilst in Kurdistan,

Professor John Moverley from Azurance took part in and contributed to the second conference for the agricultural sector held in the regional capital Erbil.

He said: “There is immense potential for developing agriculture and food production in the region with its fertile land, climate and plentiful water resources. The Government are committed to plans to achieve this and we look forward to working with all involved in this process.”
