British Summer Fruits is certainly making its presence felt in its first year.

The sexed-up revelations from its nutritional research appear to have done the trick in terms of June sales, which might well in turn have let us all in for a berry-induced baby boom in March and April 2005.

As we went to press this week, BSF announced its sponsorship of the Fruitstock 2004 music festival - so the PR machine cannot be accused of targeting too narrow an audience - unlike some other categories, there is no discernible age barrier to berry consumption and the association is leaving no stone unturned.

The UK’s soft-fruit industry can again turn up en masse at Fruit Focus confident of record sales at season’s end. Come and see us on stand 21.

We covered many of the new developments in the category in our recent supplement, but inside today is some more insight into the minds of those competing in a fast-expanding arena.
