The Chilean Hass Avocado Association held its third annual Avocado Brotherhood Lunch at Claridge’s, London, recently, and its president Adolfo Ochagavia told diners that Chilean avos continue to make great strides in this country, both in the retail and non-retail sectors.

“During the last few years, we’ve seen evidence that more of Britain’s leading chefs, restaurants, and food writers, are discovering avocados and using them on menus and in recipes for an increasingly wide range of dishes,” he said.

“This year, we are encouraging people to really explore the different uses of avocados and try them in hot winter recipes as well as salads and sandwiches. It’s part of our yearly campaign in Britain, to get people eating more of this healthy, versatile, and delicious fruit.”

He reminded diners of their “responsibilities as a member of the Avocado Brotherhood”. These are:

• Always seeking to find out more about avocados

• Eating more avocados in the coming year than you did this year

• Meeting with the Avocado Brotherhood in London once a year

And Ochagavia signed off with what has become his trademark annual poem. “Keeping you healthy, Improving your mood, Eat avocado, It’s a real superfood,” he quipped.
