Potato wedges have joined the line up of Steam and Fresh products by processor Aviko.

The Steam and Fresh Wedges in Skin, which were developed as part of the “Feel Good Foods” range of healthier products, are designed to be both convenient and nutritious, according to the firm.

The line is intended as a healthy alternative to chips and deep-fried potato products.

The Steam and Fresh Wedges in Skin boast up to 20 per cent more vitamin B1 and 30 per cent more vitamin C than a standard boiled or blanched potato and contain vitamins B1, B6, B12 and C.

The steam process means none of the flavour, vitamins or starch is drawn out of the potato, according to Aviko.

The product, which has a 75 per cent shorter preparation time than other wedges because it is cooked from the outside in, is being marketed at busy chefs.

Aviko brand manager Benine Janssen said: “Aviko’s Steam and Fresh Wedges in Skin are the perfect solution to encourage children and young adults to choose a more nutritionally balanced carbohydrate that makes them feel full, while counting towards one of their five portions of fruit and veg a day.

“Steam and Fresh Wedges in Skin are every caterer’s menu must-have. They look home-made and are a flexible accompaniment to so many dishes.”
