Audit criticises FDOC

The Florida Department of Citrus has had its knuckles rapped by the state's auditor general office in an audit which criticised the department's management procedures for issuing and managing contracts as well as controlling costs and keeping track of expenses.

The report was condemned by FDOC executive director Bob Crawford who was reported in the Florida press: “I categorically disagree. They are wrong and they lack the understanding of the world we operate in.”

The department is not having a good year and has been dragged through the courts by growers claiming the tax they pay on each box of fruit for the department's activities to promote their fruit is unconstitutional.

The Florida Citrus Commission which governs the department will consider the report at its next meeting on September 17.
