Asparagus is the UK's most popular treat for the Diamond Jubilee celebrations, according to research from the British Aspraragus Festival.
The spring vegetable was top choice after more than 1,000 people across the UK were asked what treats they would be serving over the weekend.
With its 31 per cent share, asparagus beat out champagne (27 per cent) and strawberries (19 per cent) in the popularity stakes.
Matt Foster, MD of West Growers, a Worcestershire asparagus growers’ group, said: “We had a disastrous start to asparagus season due to the rain but the fantastic weather over the last 10 days has meant we’ve been able to deliver a bumper crop.
"Asparagus is great finger food, it’s healthy and it’s British; the perfect touch of luxury to allow people to celebrate the Queen.”
