ASF launches Good Natured spuds

Angus Soft Fruits Ltd (ASF) is expanding its Good Natured brand with the launch of its new Splendid Spuds as it looks to capitalise on the popularity of potatoes in the UK.

The spuds are grown using the Good Natured protocol - a combination of technology and traditional farming methods ensuring pesticides are eliminated from the growing process.

To further support the company’s environmental credentials, the Good Natured Splendid Spuds are packed in biodegradable and recyclable 2kg paper bags with cotton string handles, made from fully sustainable sources.

The bags feature visuals of the growers to emphasise the importance of provenance and a window on the front of packet reveals the product inside.

The Good Natured Splendid Spuds are available in Asda and expand on the Good Natured brand, which also includes soft fruit and salads.

All Good Natured products are grown under the unique Seaton System developed by Angus Soft Fruits at East Seaton Farm in Angus, Aberdeenshire.

Lochy Porter, managing director of ASF, said it was the product’s popularity that drove the decision.

He said: “Good Natured Splendid Spuds are a natural extension to the existing fruit and salad range. Healthy eating and value for money remain key to the consumer. We look forward to meeting the trend towards healthier eating and, in particular, the government’s 5 A DAY campaign, with an increasingly differentiated offer.

“If we are to continue to grow our market share through retention of existing customers and attracting new customers then it is imperative that our portfolio of fresh produce products continues to grow as well.”

The company said in a statement: “Growing consumer demand for ethically sourced produce, coupled with the loyalty to the humble spud, offers a real opportunity for potato growers to increase both production and market share.”
