Beetroot is an addition to Gilfresh's supply to Asda

Gilfresh Produce has won a contract to supply Asda with its bunched beetroot and curly kale.

The Northern Irish company, based in County Armagh has become Asda's biggest local supplier of fresh vegetables since the supermarket arrived in Northern Ireland in 2005, according to the Belfast Telegraph.

David Morrow, commercial manager at Gilfresh Produce, said the supermarket was a “real champion” of local farmers and growers in the region.

Asda Northern Ireland buyer David Quigg said the new deal highlights Asda's commitment to supporting local growers across Northern Ireland.

He said: "We are delighted to be developing the strong links we already have with local farmers and producers across Northern Ireland. Since we arrived in 2005, we have been working closely with farmers to offer our customers the best of locally sourced produce.”
