Asda is to extend its Extra Special range with the addition of Red Magic potatoes on Monday.

The distinctive red skinned tubers have shallow red eyes and pure white flesh and are suited to boiling and roating.

Brothers Philip, Chris and Geoff Mayhew at Agrimarc are growing the variety on behalf of Fenmarc Produce, exclusively for Asda, at Home Farm, Woolverstone.

Philip Mayhew said: “We are now lifting Red Magic for supply to Asda stores. With their vibrant colour and superb taste, they are aptly named ‘magic’.”

Asda potato buyer Drew Kirk added: “With its strong visual appearance and attractive nature it will brighten up any plate.”

The variety will be available in 2kg packs until late November.
