Asda House in Leeds hosted an eventful day to kick off British Tomato Week. Nine-year-old Sophia Chan from Larks Hill Infant School in Pontefract was named winner of a competition to name Asda’s new super sweet plum.
Sophia dazzled judges with her entry, ‘Ruby Plum’, and won a £50 Asda voucher, as well as £500 worth of sports equipment for her school, funded by members of the Tomato Growers Association.
Meanwhile chefs from the Geest Culinary Academy were cooking up some British tomato-themed treats for the TGA and some of Asda’s growers.
During the week all Asda growers spent a day in store talking to customers about their product.
