The odds on Asda winning the battle to buy Safeway have been shortened, according to a report from spread betting company Cantor Index.
Asda is now a joint favourite with WM Morrison and retail entrepreneur Philip Green. The news follows the commission's announcement that it would take an extra six days to consider new proposals, which were believed to be from Asda.
