Asda has revealed a slow-down in sales growth following the takeover of Safeway by Morrisons.

The company said underlying sales only rose four per cent in the three months to October 31, compared with an eight per cent rise in the previous quarter. Total sales rose by around six per cent and Asda said profits rose faster than sales.

Media reports said analysts were pointing the finger at Morrisons, and said Asda had been the retailer most affected by the conversion of Safeway stores.
