Asda gets impish with Pixie

Last week saw the launch of British Pixie potatoes into Asda through the retailer’s Extra Special range.

The product was bred by Caithness Potato Breeders. The company’s Rob Doig said: “Pixie is one of the first Caithness varieties in our programme dedicated to bringing improved flavour and eating quality to our retail customer.”

Agrimarc is growing the British Pixie potatoes exclusively for Asda on behalf of Fenmarc Produce, at Home Farm, Woolverstone, which is farmed by brothers Philip, Chris and Geoff Mayhew.

The eye-catching variety, with striking pink eyes, can be eaten hot or cold. Philip Mayhew said: “Pixie is an attractive new salad potato with great eye appeal and excellent flavour and texture.”

Nigel Allam, Agrimarc agronomist, said: “Pixie is as eye-catching in the field as it is in the pack. As well as maintaining flavour, Pixie also keeps its pink eye colour after cooking.”

The 750g packs of Extra Special British Pixie potatoes are available in Asda stores now until the end of November.
