Peter Asquith, who was the last surviving founder of Asda, has died at the age of 81.
Asquith, along with brother Fred, was instrumental in establishing the company, which has expanded to become the UK’s number two supermarket chain.
The Yorkshireman, who was also a successful racehorse owner, was described by Asda as a "trailblazer" who shaped modern supermarket shopping and as "years ahead" of his time.
Since 2004, he had been an honorary life president of the Leeds-based chain.
