Asda chief executive Andy Bond has appealed for the suppliers to co-operate with the supermarket chain by allowing it to increase pricing pressure on competitors this year, according to the Financial Mail.

Bond hinted that Asda and commercial partners must continue to invest in low prices to remain competitive with the likes of Morrisons and Tesco, at the Asda Trade Briefing in Harrogate, on February 7.

“Last year was a vintage year and we had a great Christmas,” he told suppliers and would-be partners. “But with the recovery of the business complete, we mustn’t be complacent.

“This year we need to stay focused and work closely together to ensure we continue to grow a profitable business that continues to attract new customers and is a great place to work.”
