Asda and Internatioal Produce have stressed that they believe weather damaged crops may still be salvageable.

Technical managers from IP/Asda have been visiting sites where crops have been written off to assess what is and is not salvageable, with a view to selling produce is still edible.

There will be road shows and in-store tastings to help publicise the British apple and pear season, and the supply of local apples will start with Discovery, according to the retailer.

Well Pict County Local is also on the look-out for growers who may have been hit by the hail. General Manager Josh Kann said: “We have been able to help out many growers in Kent who at first thought the majority of their crop may have had to go to juice, we would like to hear from anyone who may be in this situation.”
