Argentinean soft-fruit exports up

Figures released by the Argentinean food and health authority Senasa show increasing fortunes for the fruit industry and soft-fruit in particular.

The UK was the top market for raspberries between January and November 2005, receiving 39 tonnes of a total of 105t exported.

Overall soft-fruit sendings increased by 7.5 per cent in the period with values up a massive 39.5 per cent to $31.4 million.

The UK was the second market behind the US for blueberries, taking 353t.

Blueberries are a massive growth area for Argentina and accounted for 80 per cent of soft-fruit sendings in value terms and just 24 per cent in volume.

Over all fruit sectors, sendings were up 24 per cent in volume and 34 per cent in value.
