Argentinean pear exports climb

Argentinean pear exporters are already enjoying a higher volume season than last year.

Figures released by the production regions of Rio Negro and Neuquen show that Packhams Triumph is likely to be 29 per cent up on last year and Williams 21 per cent, although Anjou is forecast to be some five per cent down.

So far the export campaign is going well for the South American senders with regional press reporting Argentinean fruit exports for the first two months of the season to the end of February up 12.5 per cent on the same period in the previous season.

The figure is largely down to strong growth in sendings of grapes and an 11 per cent increase in both pear and apple exports, due to the bigger volume crops.

As far as sizes are concerned, the packout for Williams is likely to be around 50 per cent in the 90-100 count range and 37 per cent in the 110-120 count range.
