Apples must take advantage of obesity concern before other products beat them to it

The September issue of the World Apple Report calls on the apple industry to build on the work initiated by the Washington Apple Commission (WAC) in this field. "There still appears to be a major window of opportunity for the apple industry to capitalise on the obesity concern to boost demand for apples," stated the report published by Washington-based Belrose Inc. "The industry needs one or more organisations to step forward to take the lead in a timely fashion before others seize the issue for their own ends."

WAC has started a campaign linking the consumption of three apples a day with exercise as a means of losing weight. But the campaign has been abandoned with the demise of the commission itself.
