italian co-operative and exporter Apofruit officially opened Italy’s largest fresh produce preparation facility last Saturday.
The plant, which represents an investment of some €7 million (£6.18m), has been built by refurbishing and extending the co-op’s existing operation in Longiano, in the fruit-growing heartland of Emilia-Romagna.
Total surface area has been doubled and, as well as a new building, there are 24 coldstorage chambers, a dedicated area for the handling of organic produce, advanced pre-calibration for kiwifruit, peaches, nectarines and plums and a 1,000sqm high-care preparation area for fresh prepared fruit production.
The scale of the new facility will enhance Apofruit’s operations and throughput ahead of the Italian stonefruit season.
