Fresh produce search engine www.hairyape.info is going from strength to strength since it became free to search in July last year.
Its database features almost 20,000 products and there is a limitless capacity for more. These products have all been listed by 4,500 suppliers located in more than 130 countries registered on the site.
The top 10 countries in numbers of suppliers are the UK, China, the US, India, France, Spain, Italy, Turkey, Egypt and the Netherlands. The site regularly has more than 40,000 hits a month and since it became free to search, there have been 1,800 new registered searchers. Around 80 new companies register as suppliers each month. Approximately half of the registered suppliers are exporters and the site is also free to supply.
"Currently we are looking at the possibilities arising from SMS messaging and also at relaying more information to registered suppliers about the frequency of their appearance in search enquiries," said hairyape managing director Martin Clifford. "Once companies see how often they appear, it will encourage them to look for other possibilities leading from the Internet and in particular www.hairyape.info"
