Andy Peters has been appointed to the newly created role of professor of international development and assistant principal international at Scotland’s Rural College.

Peters, who takes up his post in September, will lead SRUC’s international strategy, which is aimed at growing research, education and consulting activity and influence internationally.

Peters' career spans work in academia, the animal health industry and the third sector. He studied veterinary medicine at the Royal Veterinary College (RVC), University of London, before taking a PhD in animal science at the University of Nottingham, and a DSc at the Royal Veterinary College.

He then became senior veterinary officer at the Meat and Livestock Commission and went on to hold a number of senior roles in the UK and international animal health sectors. He was regulatory manager for Hoechst and held several roles with Pfizer Animal Health, latterly as head of European vaccine research and development.

Professor Bob Webb, SRUC principal and chief executive, said: “Andy brings a wealth of experience to Scotland’s Rural College at a time of great global need and opportunity for agricultural and rural research, consulting and education. We are very much looking forward to him leading on the development and implementation of our international strategy, across the spectrum of SRUC’s activity.”
