The first of 300,000 tonnes of melons and 470,000t of watermelons that are destined for the UK from Andalusia arrive in stores this week.

Andalusian melons - including Galia, Honeydew and cantaloupe - and watermelons will be available until June.

Hortyfruta, the newly formed organisation that represents 18,000 fruit and vegetable traders and growers in the Spanish region, is hoping that warm temperatures in the UK will help boost consumption of the fruit.

The melons’ arrival will be supported by PR activity and sampling, forming part of Hortyfruta’s larger communications campaign to educate UK consumers about fresh fruit and vegetables from Andalusia.
