A new website www.certiscleanstart.com that’s dedicated to the practice of soil fumigation for the control of soil dwelling organisms has just been launched by Certis.

“The international website is a useful technical guide for growers and agronomists in the high value horticultural crop sectors who are seeking an alternative fumigant to methyl bromide,” said Certis UK’s general manager Peter Hingley.

The launch of the website follows the acquisition by Kanesho Soil Treatment of Basamid (dazomet) from BASF, and the appointment of Certis to distribute the product in Europe (until now Basamid had only been distributed by Certis in the UK). The acquisition has resulted in the development of the Certis CleanStart programmes that show an integrated approach to pest, weed and disease control based on observation, prevention and intervention. It also details application protocols for leafy salads and strawberries.

Hingley added: “www.certiscleanstart.com gives users invaluable technical information that’s particularly useful for both growers who are now looking at making the treatment themselves, and for those that wish to use a qualified soil sterilant contractor - both are permitted for the use of Basamid, but not with methyl bromide."

The new website details the reasons for soil fumigation, how they work and the optimum conditions to deliver desired results with an illustrated step-by-step guide to application. It also gives information about the environmental profile of Basamid as well as efficacy against target organisms that draw on independently sourced trials information.
