Aldi has got in on the current craze for avocados with the launch of a new oil to celebrate Organic September.
Launching from 3 September, the discounter is sellingSpecially Selected Organic Avocado Oilat £3.49 for 250ml. The cold-pressed product contains the oil of 20 avocados in every bottle, and is described as ideal for dressing salads or adding to dips.
The line, which is a limited Specialbuy, is said to represent a 22 per cent saving compared to the equivalent brand at Waitroseand is 80 per cent cheaper than if customers purchased and pressed the same number of avocados themselves.
Organic Avocado Oil is 100 per cent natural, contains no trans-fats, additives, preservatives or artificial ingredients and is also Fairtrade certified, according to Aldi.
Avocado oil is said to have a range of health benefits, making it a healthy alternative when compared to other vegetable oils. It contains four times more beta-sitosterol - which helps lower cholesterol - than olive oil, and also contains high levels of alpha- and beta-carotene, which protects against heart disease. It’s also high in vitamin E, with 12mg in a 15ml serving equalling 20 per cent of the recommended daily allowance.
Tony Baines, joint managing director of corporate buying at Aldi UK,said: “At Aldi we recognise our customers' interest in organic, healthy products that don’t cost the earth. That’s why we’re particularly pleased to stock the Specially Selected Organic Avocado Oil.
“Currently, no other grocer offers own-label organic avocado oil, highlighting Aldi’s ongoing commitment to give customers the best quality products at the lowest prices.”
