UK consumers prefer German discounter chains Aldi and Lidl to the ‘big four’ supermarkets, a recent poll has found.

A customer satisfaction survey of 50 of the best-known retailers by consumer group Which? showed that Aldi, with a rating of 66, and Lidl, with 64 points, scored better than Sainsbury’s (61), Tesco and Asda (both at 58) and Morrisons (56).

The pricing at Aldi and Lidl was rated ‘very good’ or ‘excellent’ by three quarters of the shoppers surveyed.

High-end supermarkets Waitrose, which scored a massive 80, and Marks & Spencer, with an impressive 70, proved firm favourites.
