Albert Bartlett set to launch in the States

Albert Bartlett is to expand into the US next year.

Marketing manager John Hicks is to move stateside in the new year to establish the “scope of opportunity in that market” for what will be called Albert Bartlett USA.

This follows the appointment of ex-Tesco man Colin Smith, who took the UK’s number-one retailer to the States.

This is the latest step by the heavyweight potato supplier to increase its international business following the launch of the Rooster brand into the Dutch market earlier this year on the shelves of top retailer Albert Heijn.

The Airdrie-based supplier outlined its international ambition in 2008 when it hired Tim Hammond as international manager and took its first stand at global produce event Fruit Logistica in Berlin.

The firm could not confirm where the US office will be based.

Hicks told FPJ: “The business has had international ambitions for a while. My job is being advertised this week and it will be my job when I get to the US to scope the opportunities there.

“Our plans include other European and North American countries, presenting an exciting opportunity for the business.”
