Potato supplier Albert Bartlett has relaunched purple potato variety Purple Majesty into Ocado and Wholefoods.
First launched seven years ago, Purple Majesty will be available for this season until June, and are currently selling in Ocado in pre-pack 1.25kg bags for £2.20.
Albert Bartlett head of marketing Michael Jarvis said: “Grown in the UK, Purple Majesty potatoes have health fans talking.
“Like all potatoes, they are a source of low fat energy in the diet and also provide vitamin C, Folic Acid, B vitamins, potassium, magnesium, iron and zinc. The purple compounds mean that they are also a source of antioxidants.“
Purple Majesty was bred in Colorado by crossing existing potatoes that have naturally-occurring red and purple skins. The deep purple colour contains the same compounds as in blueberries, blackberries, black currants, red cabbage and aubergines, and has a high nutrition content.
