It was with deep sadness that the Spitalfields Market Tenants Association learnt of the death of Alan Pendergast on November 2.

Alan, aged 70, who retired in 2001 as managing director of A May Ltd, was a much loved and respected character in the market. Full of impudent humour Alan in his youth was a truly competitive sportsman with a passion for sprinting and football.

A devotee of Charlton Athletic, Alan’s sense of humour stood him in good stead.

His many friends and colleagues not only in the market but the industry will miss him. The tenants association would like to pass on its condolences to Iris and his family, as would all at FPJ.

At the time of going to print, details of the funeral arrangements are awaited.
