Roots specialist Alan Bartlett has invested more than £1 million in state-of-the-art optical sorters at its Chatteris site.

The company is the first UK business to install Concept Engineers Triplus optical sorters, which will primarily be used for mainline carrots and the growing Chantennay offering.

Commercial director Terry Hawthorn said 2013 has been a pinnacle year within the business, and that there has been focus on the infrastructure within operation.

He said: “Following the solar PV panel project, attentions have turned to the packing facility and the way in which we work as a business.

“The investment is a further demonstration of our desire to lead the way in roots production throughout all aspects of the supply chain.”

He added: “The Triplus installation has already exceeded our expectations in terms of automation, which in turn has led to improved efficiency, produced greater consistency in quality whilst reducing costs in key areas.”

Sales and marketing director for Concept Engineers, Theo van den Hurk, said: “We are please to be working with Alan Bartlett to introduce our state of the art technology in the UK market.

“Our technology has again shown that the machinery is of huge benefit to producers both in terms of the quality in output combined with significant savings on costs such as labour.”
