A new research programme will help AKP's growers to react more quickly to issues affecting potato crops and adverse weather conditions.

The programme, which will be run by science company CropLogic, will provide technology that helps management of potato crops.

CropLogic's technology works by utilising and comparing data from a number of resources including telemetry, rain gauge readings, weather predictions and irrigation plans.

An AKP spokesperson said: "Benefits of the system include forecasting maximum potential yield for each field, predicting crop demand for water and nitrogen throughout the season, providing in-season alerts and reports on how the crop is performing, and creating both a pre-season scenario analysis and post-season analysis."

CropLogic has already been trialled successfully across the USA, Canada, Australia and New Zealand, but AKP’s Lincolnshire site is one of the first British locations for the technology to be adopted.

AKP began working with the CropLogic team in July, and hopes to have ongoing access to their data over the next few months.
