Geordie TV presenter Donna Air has signed up to be the face of this year’s Organic Fortnight.
The Soil Association’s two-week celebration, to be held from September 2-17, is an opportunity for unconverted consumers to sample organic produce at events across the country, including numerous farmers’ markets.
Air, the 27-year old mother of a two-year old girl, said she gradually switched to eating organic food after presenting on both MTV and Channel 4’s The Big Breakfast left her rather run-down.
The former Byker Grove actress said: “I am delighted to be involved with the Soil Association and to create awareness about the importance of good food. It is something I feel hugely passionate about.
“I believe that food gives you more energy when it is grown naturally.
“Organic food is brilliant because it has no nasties. It has more nutrients because it’s been grown in its own way, not speeded up with chemicals, or blocked by rubbish.”
Having a baby also made Air reassess her diet and choose more organic food for herself and her family, she said.
The Newcastle-born presenter and her partner, Damien Aspinall, who owns Howlett’s wild animal park, eat about 85 per cent organic, she added.
