Aikens set to be face of British berries

Seasonal Berries has announced chef Tom Aikens is to be the face of the British berry season this year.

Aikens, who is the youngest chef to be awarded two Michelin stars, is a keen advocate of seasonal and home-grown produce.

He will be hosting small media events and cookery demonstrations at one of his three Chelsea restaurants, Tom’s Place, acting as a spokesperson for media interviews and developing recipes for the British berry season.

This is the latest move in the re-launched Seasonal Berries campaign, which replaced British Summer Fruits month.

Aikens said: “I was delighted to be asked to represent British berry growers and farmers. Eating in season is very important to me, and I’m pleased that through my work with British berry growers, I will be able to encourage people to buy British berries in season and assist them in gaining a better understanding of British growing seasons in general.”

Laurence Olins, chairman of Seasonal Berries, added: “We are very pleased to have Tom on board; he is talented and highly respected by both food industry experts and consumers alike. We are sure that with Tom’s help we can encourage people to buy even more berries in season, and make this year one of the most successful British seasons ever.”

A new website - www.seasonalberries.co.uk - with information highlighting the British berry season, is now live.
