AHDB Horticulture is calling on growers to step forward and join its crop sector panels for a three-year term from January 2018.

There are 15 vacancies across five sector panels, with a range of areas of expertise being sought.

AHDB explained that sector panel members 'play a crucial role in assessing and planning strategic research projects that directly impact the horticultural industry.'

Successful applicants will also be responsible for helping deliver AHDB Horticulture’s three-year strategy, published in March 2017, to inspire growers and industry to succeed in a rapidly changing world.

The key priorities of the strategy include extending the available range of plant protection products, adding depth and breadth to the industry’s expertise and knowledge and tackling the rising cost of human labour.

Rob Saunders, chair of the tree fruit panel said: “AHDB has an important role to play in tackling some of the critical issues affecting our industry. I’ve witnessed in my involvement with panels the vital industry voice we represent, which helps to steer and guide researchers and scientists to ensure their work is of value to growers.”

Gary Taylor, AHDB Horticulture chairman, added: “We want new thinking and new ideas to come in and make positive change. The panels are the best way for AHDB to engage with the industry on what their priorities should be.”

The deadline for applications is 31 October 2017 and can be made viahttps://horticulture.ahdb.org.uk/panel.
