Ministers have approved an increase in the levy paid by potato growers and purchasers to the Agriculture & Horticulture Development Board (AHDB) from 1 April.

The levy rises from £40.14 a hectare to £41.38 for growers and from £0.1751 a tonne to £0.1804 a tonne for purchasers.

The levies for horticulture and mushroom spawn remain unchanged.

The decision follows a two-month AHDB consultation, which finished in January. Responses overall showed support for the change, the board said. “The positive stakeholder feedback for our work and our plans underlines the fact that we are doing a good job for our levy payers,” said AHDB ceo Tom Taylor.

“It is also a testament to the hard work and professionalism of everyone in the AHDB team. Within the consultation responses there were a number of suggestions as to how we could build on and improve our work which we have taken on board.“
