Niall Allison has taken on a Scotland-wide remit to support growers of seed potatoes marketed through the Pseedco group.

The Tayside agronomist will be involved in the Date-Smart™ project, chronologically manipulated seed which increase salad crop fractions.

Allison said: “I grew up in the potato fields around Forfar, so the opportunity to work with Pseedco growers’ high specification crop, their integrated marketing chain and their innovative husbandry techniques was too good to ignore.”

Perth-based Pseedco was established in direct response to an appeal for increasingly high specification seed from ware suppliers to UK’s biggest fresh potato retailer. The 35-strong grower group raise seed for Branston QV Foods, Wilson Country and independent growers, which together, send 310,000 tonnes of ware annually into leading supermarkets and smaller high street retailers.
