Seed specialist Zeraim Gedera is hosting a conference on marketing fresh produce during the recession at an event in Israel next month.

The conference, entitled Marketing Fresh Produce under Changing Financial Conditions, will take place at the 17th international agriculture exhibition Agritech in Tel Aviv on May 7.

Commenting on the conference John Giles, divisional director at Promar International, said: “Some commentators allege that ‘food will be alright - people have still got to eat’. But going back only a short period of time - less than 12 months - it was food that was at the very heart of the problem.

“Soaring food prices were seen as a key driver of inflation, and along with concern over mortgages, fuel and utilities, at the centre of the declining consumer confidence.”

Giles will speak at the event as well as Jess Ennis, director of Productores de Hortalizas magazine, who will speak on consumption trends, while Professor Oren Kaplan will address marketing and consumer behaviour.

The conference will be held in English.
