The agricultural business of semiochemical specialists AgriSense-BCS is relocating from the UK to Barcelona, Spain.

Together with its sister company Suterra España Biocontrol, AgriSense-BCS will operate as Suterra Europe from January 1, 2010.

Suterra president Steven Hartmeier said: “The decision to divisionalise AgriSense and centralise the agricultural business in Spain follows a comprehensive economic review of the business, which has seen continuing rapid growth in western Europe as well as in developing markets in eastern Europe, North Africa and the Middle East.”

With the new headquarters in Barcelona, production of all agricultural products will move to a new, state-of-the-art facility in the US which offers “vastly improved” production capacity and efficiency.

The AgriSense non-crop business, which includes professional pest control and home and garden operations, will remain at the Treforest premises in South Wales, giving them increased capacity to meet their growing business.

The existing AgriSense management team will transfer to Suterra Europe with Dr Owen Jones as general manager, David Loughlin as director of sales and marketing and Enzo Casagrande as director of technology.

The Barcelona facilities will be staffed by additional customer service, logistics, finance and administration personnel, in order to provide the best possible service to existing and prospective customers as Suterra takes this next step forward into the European agricultural sector, according to Hartmeier.

He said: “This company restructuring will enable both Suterra Europe and the non-crop AgriSense businesses to be more focused and allow each to realise their full potential. The divisionalisation also ensures that neither business overshadows nor impedes the other units’ ability for growth and success.”
