Agrimarc Ltd, specialist in quality assurance and technical services in the food industry, revealed a touch of colour with the results of its fourth and most successful innovation trials event.
The company presented the fruit of its latest trials to buyers, growers and industry professionals in early September.
Particularly eye-catching were the coloured cauliflowers, which could be presented as a mixed floret pack in purple, green and orange. Another attention-grabber was the stunning variegated leaf cabbage, with purple and green veins through each leaf.
Mark Taylor of Agrimarc said: “The colour of the vegetables is completely natural and is retained through cooking. So food looks equally appetising at the meal table. As a consequence of these trials we will certainly seeing some of these new colourful varieties on our supermarket shelves in 2009.” A broad cross section of new potato varieties including baby new, salad and maincrop and even coloured potatoes were presented in addition to suitable varieties for the specialised prepared market.
“In an established and commodity driven market we are always looking to provide our customers with something different. The opportunity to bring new varieties and products into commercial production drives our innovation programme,” said Taylor.
“Supporting the 5 A DAY programme with colourful and different vegetables may well stimulate consumption with children - we won’t know until we try!”
