Agrexco sweetcorn exports kick off

Agrexco has started shipping its first sweetcorn supplies of the season.

The first deliveries of the Super Sweet variety were grown in the southern Arava region, and were sown and cultivated in tunnels.

Later in the season, sweetcorn from other regions, mainly central Israel, will ripen, ensuring steady exports.

Volumes are expected to total 500 tonnes, the same as last season.

Agrexco product manager Tidhar Jacson said: “The main characteristic of Carmel sweetcorn is its unmatched high quality, which is appreciated by consumers all around the world.”

Sigalit Berenzon, Agrexco technology co-ordinator, said that the Super Sweet variety has two to three times more sucrose than other corn varieties and its sweetness is retained for a long period of time. She said: “The corn is a good source of protein, fibre and vitamins A,B and C.”
