Mini plum tomato production

Mini plum tomato production

Agrexco has recorded a 50 per cent increase in its export of Carmel’s Bio Top-branded mini plum organic tomatoes.

Ronit Pumpianski, Agrexco product manager for organic tomatoes, said the export season will last until the end of April 2009.

The small tomatoes have an eight to 10 per cent brix level, and are grown in organic greenhouses using natural pollination by bumblebees. The cultivation process is constantly under observation and control and, when necessary, natural enemies (insects and mites) are used for biological pest control.

The mini plums are seafreighted and their packaging is recycled. They are mostly sold in quantities of 4kg each or as six units packed in a brown carton. Each unit weighs 250g and the packaging is made of PET or PLA, as well as sugar cane and other environment-friendly packaging material.

Carmel’s Bio Top mini plum organic tomatoes are rich in lycopene and beta carotene, with its proven antioxidants benefits, and are an excellent source for a wide range of vitamins, potassium and dietary fibres.

New products in Carmel’s range are mixed punnets with three varieties of tomatoes - yellow cherry tomatoes, round cherry tomatoes and mini plums.
