Agrexco looks forward to new citrus season

Agrexco is looking forward to the start of the Israeli citrus season and is expecting its first arrivals of red and white grapefruit in the UK by mid-October.

Product manager Yenon Osem believes that the company is in a good position. “We are experimenting with white grapefruit, leaving the fruit longer on the trees to ripen naturally. This will provide us with a sweeter fruit and a longer season,” said Osem.

The company has also invested heavily in supporting the growers in their endeavours to obtain the EurepGAP benchmark. Osem said: “Having already achieved Ecofresh accreditation, our packhouses are concentrating on any additional technical issues required by EurepGAP.”

Agrexco also has new plantations of oranges and easy peelers ñ Shamouti and Santina, all under the control of one grower. Osem said: “We are looking forward to the season. The weather has been perfect for citrus and we are confident that the taste and quality of the fruit will be all that consumers have come to expect from us.”
